Radio
Radio by Nathan B Stubblefield, Nicola Tesla and Marconi
It was the first delivery of instant information that wasn't yelled
from a street corner or reduced to print. Radio reporting put the
European battles in the American living room. Presidents used it to
speak directly to the public, not having to go through reporters. It
transformed sports coverage and delivered music and entertainment to
the masses-for free. It was also vital to commerce and advertising. TV
and internet followed, but radio started the instant delivery game.
Nominated by Al Tompkins, teacher/journalist, Poynter Institute.
